The GSRM internship provides opportunities to gain research experience in genomics research and prepares students for advancing their academic and professional skills. The program also emphasizes community development by providing a space to talk and learn about diversity and inclusion in the STEM fields.
Stipend: Each GSRM position is considered employment. Completion of work hours and assignments are required to receive up to $5,500 for the summer
Housing: Each participant is provided with apartment style housing with a private room and amenities, (including free laundry) on the University of Utah campus.
Travel: Non-local students will receive airline tickets to and from SLC, and ground transportation from SLC airport to and from the residence hall.
National Conference Attendance: Opportunity to attend one or two health/scientific research related conferences during the Fall and Spring following the internship. Registration and travel will be supported by the program.
Physician Shadowing Opportunities: If interested in clinical mentorship, participants can request a shadowing opportunity. Vaccination must be completed before internship starts (Tuberculosis screening, Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, and Rubella, Tdap, Varicella (Chickenpox), and Hepatitis B).
Additional Benefits: A University of Utah ID card, which will allows access to University libraries, use of computers on campus, and the campus shuttle. Students also have access to the gym, recreation center, public transportation, and equipment checkout at a reduced rate.
