Residency & Fellowship Programs

Residency Program

The Pediatric Residency Program at the University of Utah is a three-year program, accredited by the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), leading to certification in General Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP).

Our program offers ample exposure to both common and rare pediatric disorders in conjunction with incredible clinical teaching in both inpatient and outpatient settings, an innovative and personalized residency curriculum, and numerous research, academic, or advocacy opportunities. Graduates from our program are completely prepared to enter into a successful career in general pediatrics or continue their training in a fellowship program of their choice.

Fellowship Programs

The Pediatric Fellowship Training Programs at the University of Utah strive to produce individuals who are exceptionally qualified as physicians, educators and clinical scientists. Program faculty and staff promote an environment that includes abundant opportunities for clinical and research exposure.

Fifty-two percent of residential graduates choose to stay at University of Utah for their fellowship training, attesting to satisfaction with the educational environment, collegiality, and the overall quality of life in Utah. After completion of the Pediatric Fellowship Training Programs, forty-five percent of graduates stay on as faculty for the University of Utah.

Clinical & Research Training

These fellowships are designed to provide clinical and research training, which will prepare the trainee for a career in research, teaching, and/or in clinical practice. Close working relationships among the Department of Pediatrics and Child Health Research Center create unique research possibilities for our fellows. Individual mentoring creates a Fellowship experience that is unique and is shaped by the current focus of their program area.

Trainees are given ample opportunity to attend workshops and retreats that will help them achieve the highly-desirable skills and assets to perform in the ever-changing world of pediatrics.
