Demyelinating disease, including multiple sclerosis and neuromyelitis optica, can affect children and adolescents. Drs. Michael Lloyd and Meghan Candee provide specialized care for those affected by demyelinating diseases. The program works closely with the Multiple Sclerosis Program at the University of Utah Neurology Clinic, run by Dr. John Rose.
The mission of the clinic, started in 2005, is to provide care for children and adolescents with demyelinating disease, and to develop a deeper understanding of the causes and treatment of MS. Residents rotate through this clinic regularly to gain clinical exposure to demyelinating disorders affecting pediatric patients.
The program is also affiliated with the National Pediatric Multiple Sclerosis network, and works closely with them on clinical and drug trials (Drs. Candee and Lloyd).
