Registration open from January 12, 2026 - March 1, 2026

Training starts March 4, 2026 from Noon to 1pm MST

Trainings will occur on Wednesday at noon (see schedule), and the CAPSTONE will be held August 26-28, 2026 in Salt Lake City, UT.

What you need to know

WHO

  • Only physicians (MD/DO) or Advanced Practice Providers (NPs/PAs) may register.
  • No geographic restrictions for persons wanting to attend.

WHAT

  • Build a knowledge base about common forms of child abuse.
  • Respond to symptoms of traumatic stress and suicidality in children and adolescents who have experienced abuse and other adversities.
  • Practice taking a thorough trauma history and discussing possible diagnosis of abuse with simulated patients and families.
  • A day of mock court with real attorneys and judges.
  • Trainees will receive ongoing peer support.

WHERE

  • Training sessions on Zoom.
  • CAPSTONE - 3 days in Salt Lake City.

WHEN

  • Registration begins immediately.
  • First session - March 4th noon to 1pm MT (schedule).
  • Occurring every 3 weeks on Wed at noon to 1pm MT.
  • CAPSTONE will be August 26 - 28 in Salt Lake City.

WHY

  • Child abuse is a common problem, and frontline providers must know how to recognize and manage these cases effectively.
  • Most child abuse cases don’t require tertiary care.
  • Providers in rural and underserved communities report feeling more confident in the diagnosis and management of the potentially abused child after completing this training.

HOW

  • Healthcare providers who see pediatric patients will receive 30 hours of CME for participation in the full course (MOC Part 2 Credit is also available for pediatricians).
  • Ongoing peer support by the child abuse pediatricians at the Center for Safe and Healthy Families at Primary Children’s.
