Utah Data Coordinating Resource Center (DCRC)

ACCELERATING THE TRANSLATION OF RESEARCH TO THE BEDSIDE

NIH HEAL Initiative

The University of Utah responded to an RFA to serve as a Data Coordinating Resource Center (DCRC) for clinical trials/studies within the HEAL Pain Management Effectiveness Research Network (ERN) program.

The NIH has created the Helping to End Addiction Long-term (HEAL) initiative to speed scientific solutions to the national opioid public health crisis. As part of the HEAL initiative, trials are conducted through the NIH HEAL Pain Management Effectiveness Research Network (ERN).

Four HEAL ERN Resource Centers function as an integrated infrastructure to provide clinical trials support:

  • Clinical Coordinating Resource Center (CCRC) - Duke
  • Data Coordinating Resource Center (DCRC) - Utah
  • Statistical and Safety Coordinating Center (SSRC) - Hopkins
  • Recruitment Resource Center (RRC) - Vanderbilt

HIGHLIGHTS

Fresh FAIR Webinar

Dr. Kathy Sward, a Utah DCRC PI and Utah HEAL CDE team lead, speaks at a Fresh FAIR webinar on how Common Data Elements (CDEs) can assist with harmonizing variable-level metadata (VLMD) through real HEAL Data Ecosystem (HDE) examples.

Data Integration

Over the course of the HEAL ERN trials, the DCRC has successfully implemented multiple methodologies to integrate data from external smart phone and web-based applications, Veteran’s Affairs based data capture systems, and collaborating institution’s applications and/or warehouses.

CDE Program

The NIH HEAL Common Data Elements Program is designed to facilitate cross-study comparisons within HEAL research, enabling secondary analyses that enhance the interpretability of findings. The HEAL CDE team at the Utah DCC supports the national HEAL CDE program via programmatic support to NIH leadership.
