Chris Stockmann Memorial Scholarship Fund

Our friend and colleague, Chris Stockmann PhD, died tragically on July 25, 2016 in a rock climbing accident. Chris was, to use his favorite word, brilliant. He was a talented and prolific researcher with a passion for infectious diseases, clinical pharmacology and decision support. However, he had an insatiable intellectual curiosity that drew him to many fields.

As of the day of his death Chris had published 83 papers, 34 as first author. He was 28 years old.

Chris was known for his intellect, passion for research, incredible productivity, eagerness to teach, but most of all for his warm, humble, and unpretentious style. He had a close and loving family, a wonderful fiancée, innumerable friends and collaborators within the University and across the country. He was passionate about the outdoors and loved backcountry skiing, mountain biking, canyoneering and rock climbing.

To honor Chris and recognize other talented young academics, we are creating the Chris Stockmann Memorial Scholarship Fund. This endowed scholarship fund will be used to foster the development of talented students who share Chris's goal of improving the lives of children.

We hope you will be willing to donate to this fund. The required minimum amount to establish an endowed scholarship at the University is $25,000. In the event we do not raise the $25,000 by January 1, 2019 the funds raised will be used to provide annual scholarships to students until exhausted.

Gifts and pledges in any amount can be made to the University at
