The goals of the outpatient rotation for third-year medical students include:

  • To gain competence in diagnosing and managing common outpatient pediatric problems
  • To understand the referral process and use of community resources


Specific learning and skill development objectives are focused on:

  • Otitis media
  • Streptococcal pharyngitis
  • Diarrhea, vomiting, and dehydration
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Upper respiratory infections
  • Sinusitis
  • Abdominal pain
  • Dermatitis and diaper rashes
  • Asthma
