Welcome to the Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship Program
The cardiology fellowship was reaccredited in March 2014 without citations by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). The program is led by Dr. Mary Hunt Martin, and supported by the entire pediatric cardiology faculty.
Fellows will be engaged in the performance and interpretation of invasive and non-invasive diagnostic testing that provides the entire spectrum of diagnostic capabilities within the realm of pediatric cardiology. The first year of the fellowship program is highly structured as the fellow gains experience in all the disciplines of pediatric cardiology. Years two and three are less structured, allowing the fellow significant research time as well as flexibility to design the fellowship that fits best with their future goals.
Clinical Experience & Teaching
Most of the clinical experience and teaching occurs at Primary Children's Hospital that includes a cardiac intensive care unit with 16 beds, a neonatal intensive care unit with 52 beds, and a cardiac step-down unit of 36 beds. All beds are linked to telemetry monitoring. Patients are also seen at the University of Utah Health's Neonatal ICU and occasionally in the Well Baby Nursery.
Outpatient services are provided to our cardiology population at Primary Children's Hospital and at outreach facilities throughout the states of Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming.
Fellows at Primary Children's Hospital and the University of Utah Health are exposed to a patient population from a large geographical area. Nearly all pediatric patients with congenital and acquired cardiac defects and the majority of adults with congenital heart disease are managed at our center.

The cardiology team consists of 25 full-time and one part time pediatric cardiologist. We service 14 outpatient locations and 13 hospitals throughout the Mountain West.

Care for pediatric cardiology patients begins prenatally with a busy fetal cardiology program and continues throughout the life of the child with congenital heart disease culminating with our services provided by the adult congenital heart disease team.
The Division of Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship at the University of Utah provides full and comprehensive services for complex congenital and acquired heart disease including outpatient and inpatient evaluation and management, affiliation with a strong pediatric cardiothoracic surgery, interventional and diagnostic catheterization, cardiac transplantation, ventricular assist device and ECMO management, extensive non-invasive diagnostic imaging, and invasive and noninvasive electrophysiology. We treat more than 11,000 patients each year and have gained national recognition for our comprehensive care.
