Dr. Dean is Professor Emeritus of Pediatrics at the Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine at the University, where he has worked since 1987. Dr. Dean is the founder of the Utah DCC where he was the Principal Investigator for the DCC for the NICHD funded Collaborative Pediatric Critical Care Research Network (CPCCRN) and the Utah Trial Innovation Centers in the NCATS supported Trial Innovation Network. He attended Northwestern University Medical School and performed his pediatric residency and chief residency at the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. Prior to arrival in Utah, Dr. Dean was an Assistant Professor at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, where he finished his critical care fellowship training in 1981. He received an M.B.A. from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 1999. In Utah, Dr. Dean has served as Chief of the Division of Critical Care, Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics, Medical Director of the Primary Children’s Hospital, Medical Director of Quality Assurance, H.A. and Edna Benning Presidential Professor of Pediatrics, and the Principal Investigator for numerous Federally funded grants beginning in 1991. He has published over 300 publications.
