What to Expect While Participating in NARI
Time Commitment: This is a full-time program. Basic program requirements are that you will spend a minimum of 40 hours per week on research and program-related activities for the entire duration of the program. Research expectations and/or requirements will be determined between you and your faculty mentor.
Weekly Meetings: Participants are expected to attend regular NARI Mentor Lunch Seminars and NIH Lecture Series in which they will present their research and advance their scientific knowledge.
Program Events: Participants are expected to attend all organized program meetings and events, including: opening and closing ceremony, program orientation, lab orientation, Grad School Mini-Expo, Office of Undergraduate Research Education Series presentations, and individual meetings with program training manager and principal investigator.
Poster Presentation: Participants are required to present their work in a poster format at the Undergraduate Summer Symposium organized by the Office of Undergraduate Research.
Attend a National Conference: Participants will submit a research abstract and travel scholarship application to participate in one or two national conferences selected by the program.
Internship Report Submission: Participants are required to submit a one-page summary of their scientific and personal experience in the NARI internship upon completion of the program.
Complete Surveys: To evaluate the goals of the program and receive feedback, participants are required to submit pre and post NARI internship surveys. As well as a 1-hour in-person evaluation that is completed on the final day of the Internship.
All-Programs Socials (optional): Participants are encouraged to attend socials that are planned biweekly by NARI and other formal summer programs on campus.
