  • About Me

I was born and raised in Indianapolis, IN to an emergency medicine physician and an ED nurse, so one could argue that no matter how hard I tried to avoid it, I was bound to end up in the ED one way or another! I went to Indiana University for my undergraduate degree, earning a BA in Anthropology with a focus in Bioanthropology, giving me a great appreciation for how the human body and our society came to be. I then stayed at IU for my medical degree, which gave me the opportunity to spend at total of 3 months of my education doing clinical learning and research in Eldoret, Kenya. This fostered a deep interest in learning how to better care for under-resourced populations, particularly internationally, but also in our own communities. I then completed my categorical pediatrics residency training here at the University of Utah, surrounded by the beautiful Wasatch front. It was here working with our Rainbow Kids Palliative Care team that I developed a passion for finding ways to better implement palliative care into the Emergency Department, as well as better care for this patient population in general. I feel very lucky to be able to stay to continue my PEM training in the place I've come to call home over the last 3 years.

    Medical Areas of Interest:

Palliative care in the Emergency Department, POCUS, Global Health, resident education

    Interests and Hobbies:

Trail running, rock climbing, camping, knitting, reading, spending all of my time with my 9 year old pup Nova

    Why Utah?

Having spent the last 3 years here for residency training, it seemed like a no-brainer to me to take the opportunity to stay if it was offered to me. I initially fell in love with the pediatrics department through my virtual residency interviews because of their friendliness and palpable sense of family that they've fostered through the department, and I have been so lucky to become a part of that family in my time here. Beyond the incredible people who work in the pediatrics department, I found myself truly at home in the ED here with the incredible faculty and staff and couldn't imagine beginning the next step in my training anywhere else. Honorable mention goes to the incredible outdoor access of this city and stunning mountain views from every window of the hospital!
