Faculty Development
WELCOME!
Welcome to the website for the Office of Faculty Development in the Department of Pediatrics! We hope that this website becomes your touchdown page for resources and career guidance relevant to your individual goals.
Faculty are our most important resource. The Office of Faculty Development seeks to enhance the recruitment, retention, and success of all pediatric faculty in our department and to support them in their pursuit of excellence and the mission of caring for children. Please use this website as a source of information and as a gateway to resources through the Department, the Health Sciences, and the wider University of Utah Campus.
Do not hesitate to reach out to Dr. Blaschke and the Faculty Development Office if you have questions or would like to schedule a meeting.

Pediatrics Faculty Development Programs and Initiatives
John Carey Foundation Series:
The John Carey Foundation Series provides a weekly discussion on foundational topics for academics in the Department of Pediatrics. These presentations are targeted at fellows and new and junior faculty, but all are welcome and encouraged to attend. Larger events targeted at Faculty are quarterly. This is a CME Accredited Series, and features faculty speakers from across specialties in Pediatrics.
The Carrie Byington EDGE Society (Enhancing Development and Generating Excellence)
This Pediatric Mentorship Program trains and makes available mentors for new faculty in their first 2 years in the Department of Pediatrics. Our current cohort is 5 mentors and 10 mentees, and is in its second year.
ELEVATE: Clinical Faculty Success
The “Elevate: Clinical Faculty Success (ECFS)” program has been introduced as a pilot in the 2025/2026 academic year for clinical faculty to expand their tools for scholarship.
Topics for the program include: choosing a project; working with the IRB; working with a statistician; seeking funding support, networking, research resources, writing a proposal, writing an abstract, giving a presentation etc.
In addition to the curriculum, development of peer-mentorship groups within the cohort is encouraged. ECFS scholars will be eligible for mentorship from program faculty and the opportunity to apply for small grants for research proposals.
School of Medicine Office for Faculty:
